Starting the new year typically makes one reevaluate and set new goals. This year I am determined to make my health in all aspects, physically, mentally, and spiritually of utmost importance.

To keep me motivated and able to accomplish this “goal” realistically I had to evaluate what I fill my life with. My calendar is filled with going out to eat with friends, running to shopping trips with family, appointments, and other events I could not say no to. I looked at how I spend my days and found my days are full of over cleaning, nonproductive computer time, and some times those darn soap operas.

After I took this assessment of my life I decided I needed to decrease my commitments and those areas that will rob my time. By minimizing my to-do list and commitments I will now not have the excuse I can not take care of my health. I will have the time to ensure my husband and I are eating healthy meals, including exercise daily, and always having time to study and be with the Lord.

I am so motivated!

Happy New Year~

We are stripping wallpaper off two rooms (my study and our dining room), redoing ceilings, ripped out a fireplace, stripping two bay windows, replacing all the lighting, running electric for a new outlet so I can have a wall for my desk and a workspace on the wall, and painting. Our goal is to have it done by Christmas day. I also start back to school to complete my masters in January so we are trying to get all projects out of the way for awhile.

If I don’t get back to blogging before Christmas I pray everyone has a Merry Christmas full of joy, fun and remembrance of Jesus.

We are participating in the Tour of Homes at the Internet Cafe and BooMama’s Christmas Tour of Homes 2008, Welcome! We are doing remodeling so only able to decorate with a little Christmas cheer but very thankful and blessed for the updating of our dining room and my study.

This is the foyer into out home. You would be greeted by this sight and actually Baylor our dog would be on the other side of the door waiting to give you a warm wiggle butt welcome.

Luke 1:46-55 (The Message)

 46-55And Mary said,

   I’m bursting with God-news;
I’m dancing the song of my Savior God.
God took one good look at me, and look what happened—
I’m the most fortunate woman on earth!
What God has done for me will never be forgotten,
the God whose very name is holy, set apart from all others.
His mercy flows in wave after wave
on those who are in awe before him.
He bared his arm and showed his strength,
      scattered the bluffing braggarts.
He knocked tyrants off their high horses,
pulled victims out of the mud.
   The starving poor sat down to a banquet;
the callous rich were left out in the cold.
   He embraced his chosen child, Israel;
he remembered and piled on the mercies, piled them high.
   It’s exactly what he promised,
beginning with Abraham and right up to now.

FOR TODAY December 8th, 2008

Outside my window…snow on the ground and gray skies.
I am thinking…about friendships, true friendships. The kind you can recover from unintentional hurts and most importantly are willing and want to work through the times we let each other down.
I am thankful for…deep and meaningful friendships.
From the kitchen…will be salads with grilled chicken tonight for supper. Then I need to make the menu plan for the rest of the week.

I am wearing…my stand by for Monday’s after a long work weekend, comfy sweats, comfy shirt, and comfy socks.

I am creating…a flyer for a dog seminar my Australian shepherd club is hosting.

I am going…to have to take a nap today as I have not had enough sleep over the last few days. I am startimg to feeling really run down today.

I am reading…the Bible

I am hoping…to get a lot done on my to do list this week.

I am hearing…my husband in the family room.

Around the house…is a mess from the work we are having done to the study and the dining room. I hope it is all done by Christmas.

One of my favorite things…is my dog under the desk while I type.

A few plans for the rest of the week…will be shopping with my mom and sister, watching my nephew, having Christmas supper with my co-workers, and my husband’s work Christmas party.

Here is picture thought I am sharing…of my old doggie Macie looking out the window. I like it because of the reflection you can see of her in the window. She is nearing 15 and I am so thankful she is still here with us.

My dear sweet friend.

My dear sweet friend.

Please visit more Simple Womans Daybooks.

One of the ways I am able to rise early and have my time with the Lord is to set everything out the night before (I learned this through FlyLady). I have my clothes set out, my coffee on a timer, my coffee mug sitting beside the coffee pot, and my bible on my desk ready to go. When I wake I can grab a cup of coffee, let the dogs out to potty, and start my morning with the Lord. This routine helps keep me focused and motivated for the rest of the day.

17And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous-to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

Luke 1:17 (NIV)

Last time I wrote about needing the fruit of the spirit of self-control with gossip. God must be working on my self-control as this week I found I need to work on self-control in many areas of my life such as over eating, my temper, spending, etc…

The dictionary in the back of my bible states self-control as restraint exercised over one’s own impulses, desires, or emotions; temperance. I know I let my wishes, dreams, desires, needs, and wants come before others, especially my husband.

I decided to turn to the Word to define how I should see the fruit of the spirit of self-control.

Here is where I am now:

Like a city whose walls are broken down
is a man who lacks self-control.

Proverbs 25:28

Here is how I want to have my walk with Christ defined:

It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age

Titus 2:12

Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

1 Peter 1:13

8But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet.

1 Thessalonians 5:8

Please pray for me as I draw near God to become more like Him and exhibit the fruit of spirit of self-control.
